Naps Should Come BEFORE Parties :(

Wake Up Tanner!
Oliver's birthday was yesterday. Rule number one. Birthday boys need plenty of rest BEFORE the party. We spent much of the day before doing K9 Kamp assignments, photo shoots, and training for party poses. Trust me; they didn't happen. The boys are falling asleep during their party.

Check out poor Tanner. The only thing helping him hold on is the thought of digging into that yummy Peanut Butter, Banana and Jelly Cake that is Oliver's birthday treasure.

Banana Cake
Before Frosting
Oliver's Fourth Birthday will go down as a failure in the traditional sense. It rained buckets here so we didn't get a single bit of enjoyable outside time. No swimming, no dog park, no walk. What did we do? We trained. We blogged. We took photos of the toys for the #SafeHowlOween Twitter Party. Strangely enough, even with all that photography concentration, I didn't think to try out Oliver's costume. Next week!

The result? I flat wore out these two pups before we even brought out the cake to put the yogurt 'frosting' on top of it. They still enjoyed eating it, but I'll blame myself for doggedly working them to near exhaustion before we got to it.

The good news is the photos for the Twitter party turned out pretty good, I think. They're waiting in the camera for their turn to get plugged into the Internet.

Back to the business of birthdays. You'd probably like the recipe for this cake, huh? Well, I hate to disappoint you. It's the same recipe I used when I reviewed this super cool silicone, paw-shaped pan for Safe Made Pets a while back. Your pups are sure to love this Bow Wow Banana Cake just like my boys. It was such a hit then that I thought I'd go for the sure thing.

Peanut Butter,
Jelly & Banana Cake
The only difference is that I topped it with plain yogurt and then decorated it with Peanut Butter and Jelly Planet Dog Eats dog treats. It was a big hit and everyone slept well last night. We were hopeful for a dog park outing today, but alas the deluge is back.  Sometimes no amount of planning works and you just have to fly by the seat of your pants. Afternoon nap anyone?
