How to Stop a Dog From Getting in the Bed With You
Many loving dog owners fall into the trap of allowing the furriest member of the family to crawl into bed at night. Unfortunately, the dog is not the only thing that is entering the bed with you or your children. Any bugs, including fleas and ticks, dirt and unpleasant odors that are found on the dog will now be found in your otherwise clean bed. It is possible to stop a dog from sleeping in the bed, even if it has become accustomed to the habit.
Instructions
- 1
Locate a comfortable pet bed and place it into the bedroom next to the bed or inside a crate in the bedroom. Choose a dog bed that has a removable cover that can be washed and is large enough to accommodate the animal.
2Place a dog treat on top of the bed and a collar on the dog
3Allow the dog to enter the bedroom and allow it to jump on top of the bed.
4Pull on the collar softly and utter the word "Floor" while bringing the dog down to the ground immediately after it has jumped on the bed.
5Lead the dog over to the dog bed and allow it to eat the treat while you gently press its lower body onto the bed. Praise the dog for successfully laying on the bed. If the bed is being kept in a crate, close the door for 10 to 15 seconds before allowing the dog to exit.
6Continue to lead the dog into the bedroom with the collar and utter the word "Floor" while carefully pulling it onto the floor.
