Tanner Masters Whirl-a-Bone
This review has been a long time in the making. When I first met Mike Conde, the inventor and brains behind Brainy Bones, he was still researching and perfecting his design. His excitement was contagious and we enjoyed a bit of back and forth email as he closed in on getting his first batch made and off to the stores. Watching that creative process was fun for me, but no less than watching my dogs enjoy the fruits of Mike's labor.

On the Road with Brainy Bones

Tanner and Oliver each have their own talents. Clearly Brainy Bones was right up Tanner's alley. After mastering Peek-a-Bone, the apparent easiest of the threesome, I offered him Whirl-a-Bone and then Tug-a-Bone, each being cleaned out within minutes. That's not to say there was no challenge, though. Tanner just happens to have a Houdini snout that allows him to open doors, crates, gates and all manner of toys with hidden compartments. Needless to say he was quite proud of himself.

Oliver, on the other hand, has the tiniest snout on the planet, or at least that's how his veterinarian describes it while examining Oliver's teeth. That said, Oliver still possesses great diligence and will stick with the task at hand for quite sometime.

Downward Dog Oliver
With the gentlest of bites and little apparent strength in his jaws, Oliver was unable to nuzzle into the Peek-a-Bone for quite a while. He could smell the treats inside and really did put his heart and soul into the effort, finally getting a trickle of payoff. Yay, Oliver! I know this toy challenged him, but he persevered :)

On Thanksgiving I had a little fun with the boys when I placed some turkey inside their Brainy Bones, giving them an extra special game to pursue, while we enjoyed a big family dinner.

Brainy Bones have now taken a special place in the arsenal of ways that I suggest my readers keep their dogs' minds busy. These sorts of activities are great for rainy days, tiring out an overly-energetic dog, and building his problem solving skills.

Ready for a Ride to Grandma's House

We have also discovered that the Brainy Bones toys make a perfect traveling companion. On a long drive, giving each dog a challenging toy with yummies inside, helps to keep their mind occupied and boredom at bay. We highly recommend you keep one near your traveling supplied to remind you to take it along when you're on the road during the holidays and beyond. Storing the Brainy Bone by your leashes will help remind you to bring this terrific busy bone along for some fun exploration by Fido.

As you may have guessed, I'm running a giveaway to help Fido meet his New Years goal of doing more brain work! That sounds like a great resolution for most dogs. How about your Fido? You can enter below to win one of 6 Tug-a-Bones to give your dog's brain a good workout. Enjoy!
